This is the first camcorder of any sort that I have bought and have had such extremes of opinions about, you might find these thoughts of use before you buy the same as me.
I bought the camera mainly because I wanted a small bit of kit that would fit into a pocket. For size and ease of use you will not find a better item. The filming is easy and the quality is excellent (indoors is a little grainy but ok), I have had great fun using it.However, as good as the camera is for filming, it has caused me so much grief and frustration when it comes to editing and copying to disc.
You can only use the Sony software that comes with the camera (Movieshaker) which is slow and only allows you to copy to MPEG2 format on dvd. Also, do not think that editing and creating films will be easy on your PC, you will need a heap of RAM to export.
In short, as much as I love using the camera for filming, the downside of watching the films back has left such a sour taste that if I had know this before buying the camera, I would never have bought it.
I have mentioned to a number of specialist video stores that I have the IP7 and they have said that Sony dropped a clanger with this camera!
Remember this camera is very expensive, dont be sucked in by the Sony name thinking that they will have thought of everything, they have not!
